Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts
Farmer and Dark
Liverpool
1973-84

Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts, Derby Square. By Farmer & Dark. Design work began in 1973 but the courts did not open until 1984. Ten storeys, containing twenty-eight courtrooms in the core. Faced with vertically ribbed pre-cast panels of dark, pinkish concretes, with brown ceramic tiles and lead-covered mansard roofs. Richly sculptural from most angles, though rather oppressive in bulk and colouring.
